War.
Race.
Fight...Death.
This is what it is.
It is what it is.
This is what it is.
Death...Fight.
Race.
War.
Courage,
lads.
Courage.
Faith is courage;
Courage is faith.
No park-walk,
duck-feed,
crap-shoot,
chit-chat-chew-fat
an' that, 'n'at.
Grab, Squeeze, Slash, Burn, Duck, Weave, Die, Learn.
Never give up; Never surrender; Never...
gack...
ah...

Use 'em!
Use your spiritual gifts! Use them!
That's the tone Paul takes with Timothy in 2 Timothy 1: 6-7. The verses work together with verse 7 pointing to verse 6, "For this reason," and then reiterating the connection by beginning verse 7 with "For," that is shorthand for "for this reason" of verse 6.
For this reason you need to use your spiritual gift; because the type of Spirit God has given us is not afraid. Don't be afraid! Fear nothing. Rather, focus on using your gift in the power of God, for love, in appropriate ways. (my interpretive rendering)
Here's how I take this: We've been given gifts to be used: some for equipping others to minister, and some for ministering (Eph 4). Timothy had been cowed into silence by the opposition. Maybe some democratic idealism had bled into the biblical view of church leadership Paul laid out in 1 Timothy; maybe the opposition had swayed the congregants and so Timothy had retreated to lick his wounds and pray imprecatory psalms. Whatever the case, fear put Timothy's behind on his hands. So Paul writes and says, "Stir it up!"
Why? We've been called and gifted to power, love, and wise living.
Friends, this is just another way of saying what I am increasingly coming to understand, There is no healthy Christian where there are no acts of love for the mission of Jesus; and there is no healthy church where the mission of Jesus gets marginalized for whatever reason, even fear masquerading as humility.

Lent
I do not know much about Lent and the Liturgical Calendar, but IM provides a great collection of resources for the uninitiated.
My favorite are:
Bible readings, and
Church Father readings .
